MLA for Arthur-Virden

Larry was first elected as a Progressive Conservative member in 1999 and was re-elected to this position in 2003 and 2007. Larry and his wife Beryl, have two children and five grandchildren.
 
Upon graduating from the University of Manitoba with a diploma in Agriculture, Larry and Beryl farmed at Elgin until 2002 before moving to Virden. Always involved in community activities, Larry expanded these efforts to many organizations.
 
He was President of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers from 1995-1999, twice elected to the Canadian Wheat Board Advisory Committee (1987-94), served two terms on Winnipeg Commodity Exchange as Manitoba’s Public Governor, Executive Member of Canadian Grains Council, Manitoba Pool Elevators delegate (1984-91), member of the Keystone Agriculture Producers and has been involved with many other associations. Larry and Beryl were Mid Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers in 1986.
 
The University Of Manitoba Faculty Of Agriculture recognized Larry with a “Certificate of Merit” for outstanding contributions to the agricultural industry and the public at large in 1990. He is presently the Shadow Cabinet Member for Conservation; Water Stewardship; Climate Change; Green Initiatives with previous responsibilities for Infrastructure and Transportation, Inland Port, Finance, Environment, Intergovernmental Affairs (Rural) and as Deputy Leader in 2007.
