McFADYEN TO SELINGER: REVERSE COSTLY BIPOLE DECISION IMMEDIATELY
PC Government’s first decision would be to reverse the NDP’s $640 million west side waste
With the NDP set to deliver a budget in March, Progressive Conservative Leader Hugh McFadyen is calling on Greg Selinger to reverse his directive forcing Manitoba Hydro to build Bipole III down the longer, more expensive west side route. The PC Leader’s belief in an east side route is supported by engineers, environmental experts and First Nation Communities along the east side. If Selinger fails to act, McFadyen’s first decision as premier will be to reverse Selinger’s directive and save Manitobans $640 million by allowing Hydro to build the new line on the east side of Lake Winnipeg.
“Facing a record $600 million deficit, the NDP is already talking about wage freezes and program cuts,” McFadyen said. “Before any programs and services are cut, Greg Selinger should move immediately to avoid the hundreds of millions of waste caused by his 2007 directive.”
“Manitoba’s next bipole line is critical for our economic future. That much has never been disputed,” McFadyen said. “The only issue is whether Greg Selinger will take the advice of the engineers and environmental experts who agree with us that his west side directive is a terrible mistake”.
McFadyen will also host a series of town hall meetings to discuss the impacts of the west side bipole line to be held in the weeks leading up to the budget on March 23rd.
